Energy balance in early life.

چکیده
Calorie balance in man 83 efficiency at the rate of zoo kcal/day, it would last for about 5 months. The loss in body-weight by lactating women confirms that such utilization of reserves does, in fact, occur (Hytten & Thomson, 1961). But breast-feeding is becoming the exception rather than the rule in Western society and, if it is not removed by lactation or exercise, the surplus of fat may represent the beginnings of obesity. We may therefore have to revise our ideas of ‘normality’ in the light of the customs in modern urban society.

Energy intake and resting energy expenditure in adult male rats after early postnatal food restriction.
Both in man and in animal models, changes in food intake and body composition in later life have been reported after alterations in perinatal nutrition. Therefore, we hypothesised that early postnatal undernutrition in the rat induces permanent changes in energy balance. Food restriction (FR) during lactation was achieved by enlarging litter size to twenty pups, whereas control animals were rai...
متن کاملThe role of motor and nutritional individuality in childhood obesity.
Nutritional and motor individuality vary significantly among human subjects, and their mutal relationship is decisive for a desirable energy balance and turnover with regard to body composition, physical fitness level and health. Early establishment of optimal individualities, with regard to genetic, epigenetic and other factors which influence the organism early in life is desirable for a posi...

متن کاملThe mTOR Pathway and the Role of Energy Balance Throughout Life in Colorectal Cancer Etiology and Prognosis: Unravelling Mechanisms Through a Multidimensional Molecular Epidemiologic Approach
Timing of exposure to lifestyle factors that influence energy balance may differentially affect colorectal cancer (CRC) risk and prognosis. Caloric restriction in youth and short stature, as markers of early-life exposures, have shown to decrease CRC risk, whereas large body size and low physical activity levels in adulthood are established risk factors for CRC. Regarding prognosis, overweight,...
متن کاملThe Association of Birth Weight and Infant Growth with Energy Balance-Related Behavior – A Systematic Review and Best-Evidence Synthesis of Human Studies
BACKGROUND Suboptimal prenatal and early postnatal growths are associated with obesity in later life, but the underlying mechanisms are unknown. The aim of this study was to systematically review the literature that reports on the longitudinal association of (i) birth size or (ii) infant growth with later (i) energy intake, (ii) eating behaviors, (iii) physical activity or (iv) sedentary behavi...
متن کاملEarly Life Nutrition and Energy Balance Disorders in Offspring in Later Life
The global pandemic of obesity and type 2 diabetes is often causally linked to changes in diet and lifestyle; namely increased intake of calorically dense foods and concomitant reductions in physical activity. Epidemiological studies in humans and controlled animal intervention studies have now shown that nutritional programming in early periods of life is a phenomenon that affects metabolic an...
